MOTORCYCLE DRAG RACING RULES

National/Regional Motorcycle Drag Racing will consist of (3) three categories as listed below.

P/ST: Pro Street
SB: Superbike Elimination
S: Superbike

The primary objective is to become the overall winner in the class. A series of two-bike, tournament style eliminations is conducted. The losing vehicle in each race is eliminated, and the winning rider progresses into succeeding rounds of the competition. The series of races continues until one winning rider remains. That rider is declared the class winner. Minimum number of competitors must be 8 in each class.

P/ST and S will run heads up. SB class will be run on a handicap bracket racing system. The primary objective is to become the over all winner of the class. A series of two-bike, tournament style elimination's is conducted. The losing vehicle in each race is eliminated, and the winning riders progress into succeeding rounds of competition. This series of races continues until one winning rider remains. That rider is declared the category winner. Minimum number of competitors must be 8 in each class.

GENERAL RULES
1. BATTERIES: Must be securely mounted.
2. BREATHERS: OEM or additional oil breather maybe fitted.
3. CHAIN GUARD: Full length chain guards are mandatory.
4. CLOTHING:
4.1.
All riders will wear a full face helmet with visor that meets SABS specification. All riders will wear a full leather race suit, one piece or two piece, full leather gloves and leather boots which have ankle protection.
5. FUEL SHUT OFF VALVES:
5.1.
All motorcycles will have an electrical or mechanical fuel shut off system subject to "TC" approval.
6. HANDLE BARS: Must be OEM or better.
7. IGNITION: Positive kill switch must be fitted on the handlebars.
8. LIGHTS: All motorcycles must have functional front and rear lights.
9. MIRRORS: Maybe removed.
10. MUDGUARDS: Front mudguards must be fitted. Rear mudguards maybe removed
11. STEERING STOPS: Minimum of 5mm between thumb and tank at full lock.
12. THROTTLE: Must be spring loaded to the closing position. No overrides allowed.
13. TYRES: Minimum of 1mm tread depth at the commencement of the race meeting.
14. NUMBER BOARDS:
14.1.
The number board must be placed on the swing arm on both sides of the motorcycle. The number size must be 80mm high and 20mm thick black on a white background. Number boards must be a minimum of 200mm wide x 150mm high. The number board must display the class designation and competitor's number. No white shoeshine numbers will be allowed at National events. All competitors must carry series sponsors on the number boards. If series sponsors are not displayed the competitor will not be eligible for any prize money.
15. TECHNICAL INSPECTION:
15.1.
All motorcycles entered must pass an MSA technical inspection and riders must comply with and pass an MSA race gear safety inspection.
P/ST: PRO STREET
Class designation "PST" followed by competitor's race number.
Heads-up racing only. Whatever is not specifically allowed is disallowed

1. BRAKES:
1.1.
OEM or better. Pads and hoses maybe replaced. Subject to "TC" approval.
2. CATCH PAN:
2.1.
Must be equipped with a ballistic oil blanket or catch pan. The blanket or pan must cover the lower section of the engine. The catch pan must be able to hold all the oil from the engine.
3. CHAIN GUARD: Full length is mandatory.
4. CLUTCH: Maybe modified or replaced.
5. ENGINE: Internal modifications only.
6. EXHAUST: Maybe modified or replaced.
7. EXTERNAL GEAR RATIOS/GEARING: No restrictions to sprockets and chain.
8. GEARBOX:
8.1.
Maybe modified or replaced. No automatic transmissions allowed. Air or electric shifters allowed.
9. GROUND CLEARANCE:
9.1.
Minimum of 50mm with the rider seated on the motorcycle, feet on the foot pegs and a minimum of 0.7 bar pressure in each tyre.
10. ELECTRICAL:
10.1.
Maybe modified or replaced. Charging system must operate and maybe assisted with external charging system. Engine must start with own OEM starter. Battery maybe moved or replaced. Motorcycle must have operational front and rear lights. OEM lights maybe removed or replaced. Motorcycle must have hand strapped kill switch. Maximum length of strap to be 500mm. Use of control devises to prevent front wheel lift or launch control or 2 - step system or stutter boxes are not allowed.
11. FAIRINGS:
11.1.
Maybe modified or replaced. Seat and tail section maybe modified or replaced and must be extended to cover the rear wheel. Original profile of the motorcycle to be retained.
12. FRAME:
12.1.
OEM only. Modifications for strengthening the frame allowed. Accessory brackets maybe removed or replaced. Frames maybe polished. All modifications subject to "TC" approval.
13. FUEL: Must comply with AMA P/ST rules.
14. FUEL TANK:
14.1.
Maybe modified or replaced. Must retain original shape. Sloping at the rear of the tank is allowed.
15. IGNITION SYSTEM: Maybe modified or replaced.
16. INDUCTION: Turbo or supercharger or nitrous oxide system allowed.
17. NITROUS OXIDE BOTTLE:
17.1.
Must be securely mounted within the frame rails and mechanically fastened. Hose clamps prohibited.
18. REARSETS AND PEDALS:
18.1.
Maybe modified or replaced. Passenger footpegs and mounts maybe removed.
19. SUSPENSION:
19.1.
Front forks maybe modified. Rear suspension maybe modified or replaced. Swingarm maybe modified or replaced. Original mounting points must be used and maybe enlarged. Solid struts or wheelie bars not allowed. Ballast maybe added.
20. TYRES:
20.1.
Front tyre must be DOT approved road tyre. Rear tyre must be DOT approved road tyre or maximum 7 inch wide slick.
21. WHEEL BASE: Maximum 1727mm.

SB: SUPERBIKE ELIMINATION (BRACKET CLASS)
Class designation "SB" followed by competitor's race number.
Bracket racing only. Whatever is not specifically allowed is disallowed.

1. BRAKES: OEM only. Pads and hoses maybe replaced.
2. CHAIN GUARD: Full length is mandatory.
3. CLUTCH: OEM only. Plates and springs maybe replaced.
4. DIAL - IN:
4.1.
All competitors will enter a dial-in time within 1% of their best qualifying time. If a time is not entered the rider will be disqualified. The maximum dial-in time will be 13 seconds. The break-out rule applies to all. No points will be allocated to record runs or to qualifying position. Rider must qualify in both lanes.
5. ENGINE: Internal modifications only.
6. EXHAUST: May be modified or replaced.
7. EXTERNAL GEAR RATIOS/GEARING: No restrictions to sprockets and chain.
8. FAIRINGS:
8.1.
OEM only. The screen maybe modified or replaced. Holes maybe cut in the fairing to accommodate the exhaust system. Mirrors and indicators maybe removed. Passenger seat pad maybe removed and replaced with OEM cover.
9. FRAME:
9.1.
No modification. Must have VIN plate. Rear number plate holder maybe removed.
10. FUEL: Must comply with M.S.A. GCR 240 maximum 102.6 octane.
11. FUEL TANK: No modification. Maybe filled with Explosafe Foam.
12. GEARBOX: OEM only. No modifications. Undercutting of gears allowed.
13. GEARSHIFT SYSTEM: May be modified for race pattern type gear change.
14. GROUND CLEARANCE:
14.1.
Minimum of 75mm with the rider seated on the motorcycle, feet on the foot pegs and a minimum of 0.7 bar pressure in each tyre.
15. IGNITION SYSTEM: No modification. Only Power Commander or equivalent allowed.
16. INDUCTION:
16.1.
Internal modification to the throttle bodies is allowed. No aftermarket turbo or nitrous system allowed. Air filter may be replaced.
17. REARSETS AND PEDALS:
17.1.
May be modified or replaced. Passenger foot pegs and mounts maybe removed.
18. SUSPENSION:
18.1.
May be modified. Weights or strapping not allowed. Linkage maybe modified or replaced. Solid struts not allowed.
19. SWING ARM:
19.1.
Motorcycles manufactured before 1990 may use an OEM swing arm from another model of the same manufacturer.
20. TYRES: Only DOT approved road tyres allowed.

S: SUPERSTOCK 1000cc
Class designation "S" followed by competitor's race number.
Heads-up racing only. Whatever is not specifically allowed is disallowed.

6. ENGINE: Capacity open. Must be within 1% of OEM specification. Internal modifications allowed.
7. EXHAUST: May be modified or replaced.
8. FAIRINGS:
8.1.
May be modified or replaced. Screens maybe modified or replaced. Mirrors maybe removed. OEM lights maybe removed.
9. FRAME: No modifications. Must have a VIN plate.
10. FUEL: Must comply with AMA specification.
11. FUEL INJECTION: May be modified.
12. FUEL TANK: No modification. May be filled with Explosafe Foam.
13. EXTERNAL GEAR RATIOS/GEARING: No restrictions to sprockets and chain
14. GEARBOX: OEM only. No modifications. Undercutting of gears allowed.
15. GEARSHIFT SYSTEM:
15.1.
May be modified for race pattern type gear change. An electronic inline cutout system operated by the gear linkage maybe fitted.
16. GROUND CLEARANCE:
16.1.
Minimum of 50mm with the rider seated on the motorcycle, feet on the foot pegs and a minimum of 0.7 bar pressure in each tyre
17. IGNITION SYSTEM: May be modified or replaced.
18. INDUCTION:
18.1.
Internal modification to the throttle bodies is allowed. No aftermarket turbo or nitrous system allowed. Air filter may be removed or replaced.
19. REARSETS AND PEDALS:
19.1.
May be modified or replaced. Passenger foot pegs and mounts maybe removed.
20. SEAT: May be modified or replaced.
21. SUSPENSION:
21.1.
May be modified. Strapping is allowed. Weight maybe added to the front forks to a maximum of 5kgs per side and must be securely mounted with a minimum of 2 x 8mm bolts per weight. Linkage maybe modified or replaced. Solid struts not allowed.
22. TYRES: Only DOT approved road tyres allowed.

J: JUNIOR CLASS:
Max age limit 13 years old. Max cc 150. Unless approved by Motorcycle Committee and Exco. No Regional or National Status, only Club status.
FS: FACTORY STOCK
This will be only Club Status for 2008. Will be re looked at for 2009.
REGIONAL AND CLUB MOTORCYCLE DRAG RACING WILL CONSIST OF (4) CATEGORIES LISTED BELOW: Minimum number of competitors will be 6 in each class.

FS: FACTORY STOCK: Rules listed below.
Regional competitors will wear a full-face helmet with visor, which meets SABS specificatn. Protective clothing will consist of a minimum of a leather jacket, long pants, full leather gloves, and leather boots. All race gear subject to "TC" approval.

FS CLASS
Class designation "FS" followed by competitor's race number.
Heads-up racing only. Maximum capacity 1000cc. Whatever is not specifically allowed is disallowed.
Reserved for street legal motorcycles. Factory Stock / FS is a new class which will be run at Club and Regional events for the first year depending on the support and growth and in 2009 hopefully this class will then run at National level. This class will meet the growing demands of motorcyclists who would like to race on a factory stock motorcycle with no weights, no lowering. Factory stock will run 'heads up' with a minimum of 6 motorcycles up to 1000 cc. FS will also be a feeder class to our other 3 classes.

7. FRAME: No modification. Must have VIN plate. Rear number plate holder maybe removed.
8. FUEL: Pump gas only maximum 95 octane unleaded.
9. GEARBOX: OEM only. No modification. Undercutting of gears allowed.
10. GEARSHIFT SYSTEM: May be modified for race pattern type gear change.
11. GROUND CLEARANCE:
11.1.
Minimum of 100mm with the rider seated on the motorcycle, feet on the foot pegs and a minimum of 0.7 bar pressure in each tyre.
12. IGNITION SYSTEM: No modification. Only Power Commander or equivalent allowed.
13. INDUCTION:
13.1.
Air filter maybe replaced by aftermarket unit. Emission control valves maybe removed. Carburetor models are allowed a maximum of 42mm bore.
14. REARSETS AND PEDALS: May be modified or replaced. Passenger footpegs and mounts maybe removed.
15. SUSPENSION:
15.1.
No modifications. Fork brace maybe added or replaced. Steering damper maybe added or replaced. Maximum pull through of front forks to be 40mm above triple clamp.
16. SWINGARM:
16.1.
Motorcycles manufactured before 1990 may use an OEM swing arm from another model of the same manufacturer.
17. TYRES: Only DOT approved road tyres allowed.
