SA Nationals - Round 2

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing as we kick of Round 2 of the 2013 SA National Drag Racing Championship on Wednesday, 1 May 2013 at Tarlton International Raceway.

Spectators will be guaranteed some awesome competition runs amongst some of the fastest Drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator Category showcases drivers like the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel (Whiplash) along with the A-Class Funny Car Pilots, Koos Hailey (Waco Flash) and Werner Conradie (Addiction) and Nico van Rensburg in the Top Alcohol Funny Car (Lethal Weapon) while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing on the Day. These Top Eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of 6 – 7 seconds at over 300 km/h over the quarter mile.

Bringing everything to the fight will be Charles Slater (UnderDog) to keep his championship points lead over the rest of the Senior Eliminator arsenal. Chasing the points leader will be young`ster, Wessel Oosthuizen (Full Boost) Stallion, Hannes Minnaar with the Twin Turbo 2JZ Corolla, Arthur Joubert with the (RacingBoys/AJ Racing) Rotary powered Turbo Rustler, Nico van Rensburg (Adrenalize) Thunderbird and Gavin Wilkins (SpeedNSound/SpeedPro/SKF) Mustang. Joining the latter will be Azy Raidan (Skyline), Sybie Coetzee (Datsun) and the long awaited return of the “Budler Motorsport” E30 Turbo Charged BMW along with Kobus Kruger (Super Test) Mazda. Topping the Super Competition Leaderbords are, Simon Slooten (Camaro), Chris Dicks (Cobra), Russell Slater (C-Dragster), Shaun Watson (T-Bucket), Mark Slooten (Camaro). Turning up the heat to gain some points lead will be Louwtjie van den Berg in the “Who’s the boss II” Chevy 2 and Johan van Zyl in the 8.5 litre Fuel Injected Corvette “American Sweetheart” followed by Jannie Badenhorst in the Turbo charged “BranchWorx” Opel Corsa. Fighting to keep the points lead in Competition Eliminator will be drivers such as Quentin Boylan (Honda), Satish Harrichand (Speed n Sound Army Superboss), Michelle Taylor (Celica), Leon Gouws (Datsun), Andre de Beer (Datsun), Kalen Arumugam (Opel) along with many more.

Street Eliminator will have two brackets racing on the day, Super Street with a race bracket of 11.00 to 14.00 seconds will see Ugan Naidoo (VW Golf), Hussain Ismail (VW Golf), Chris Foley (Corolla), Jozo Boszniak (Audi) and Philip von Wieliigh (Mazda) while in Modified street, which have a race bracket of 13.50 to 17.00 seconds, will see lady racers like, Elise Havenga (Mercedes), Ester Cloete (VW Golf) fight it out along the male drivers such as Hennie van Rensburg (VW Golf), Francois Weydeman (VW Golf), Marco van den Berg (Toyota) to name but a few. Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders like Jerry Lombard (Suzuki), Zafar Hoosen (Suzuki), Shaun and Bertus Breedt (Suzuki’s) will offer stiff competition in the SS-Bikes Class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey (BMW S1000RR), Jesaja Lombard (Suzuki), Peet Viviers (Suzuki) and Leonard Roberts (Suzuki) will battle it out to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Nico van Rensburg in the Famous, Tarlton J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragster. This beast of a machine is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400 km/h over a quarter mile.

Tickets are at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R80.00 adults and R40.00 kids (ages 6-12) Tarlton offers plenty of free parking and take-away food and refreshments available at the venue. The gates open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday 5 May 2013.

Sounds of thunder will reverberate around Tarlton International Raceway as we kick off with the 1^st round of the 2013 Drag Racing season with this first instalment of the Tarlton Motorsport Club Drag Racing Championship.

In preparation for the start of the South African National Drag Racing Series that starts in March, spectators will be guaranteed some awesome exhibition runs amongst some of the fastest Drag car competitors such as the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel along with the A-Class Funny Car Pilots, Koos Hailey and Werner Conradie along with Nico van Rensburg in the “MotorOne/Ctrack/McCarthy Toyota” Top Alcohol Funny Car while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular match racing on the Day. These Top Eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of 6 – 7 seconds at over 300 km/h over the quarter mile.
