Club Drag Racing and Exhibition

TarlTarlton International Raceway on the West Rand will be hosting an explosive Club Drag Racing and Exhibition event on Sunday, 26th February 2012. This meeting will comprise of National competitors who will be competing in final preparation for the upcoming round of the SA National Drag Racing Championship.


"Exhibition" runs will be showcased by the Top Alcohol Funny cars of Nico van Rensburg and Pieter de Wit along with the impressive Dragster of Dalmain Hattingh. These cars are capable of reaching terminal speeds in excess of 300kph within indices of 6.00-7.00 seconds over the quarter mile. Joining for final prep will be drivers such as Johan van Zyl in the 8.5L fuel injected corvette, Louwtjie van den Berg in the supercharged Chevy 2 and Gavin Wilkins with his "Speed Pro" Shelby Mustang. Mark Slooten with the "Rolling Thunder" Camaro, Simon Slooten with his awesome purple dodge challenger and Shaun Watson in the T-Bucket will also be joining in the drag action.
A Two 'best out of series' match races will take place in the purpose built drag monster class. One being between the fastest Supercharged V8 in the country, The 7-Second MotorOne/C-Track Ford Thunderbird driven by Nico van Rensburg versus the fastest 6 Cylinder Turbo car, Marius Oosthuizen's wicked Turbo Altered "Budler" BMW E30, both these vehicles produce in the region of 1500hp and are sure to create an interesting challenge not to be missed. Second challenge will see the C-Turbo Altered Toyota Lexus "MethAddict" of Ian Repsold up against Arthur Joubert's "Innovation Group" Rotary Mazda Rustler, both these competitors will be aiming at running sub 8-second runs as they were getting very close to this milestone towards the end of last season.
Street car categories will have a host of competitors competing and it goes without saying that a number of the National Bike competitors will certainly join in the fray while the top competitors in each category will go through to race in afternoon eliminations. This event promises to deliver some of the finest Drag dogfighting in the country.
To add to the excitement, Tarlton will perform exhibition runs with their two J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragsters. Capable of reaching speeds of 400+kph over the quarter mile, these cars with their flaming tails are piloted by Nico van Rensburg and Pieter de Wit. Over the years these cars have become the staple diet of Drag racing enthusiasts and they never disappoint.


The gates will open at 07h00 and there is plenty of safe free parking available along with take-away food and refreshments from their restaurants and bars.

Tickets are R70 per adult and R40 for kids between the ages of 6-12.
